The 7th UPLB CAS Student-Faculty Research Conference

Theme: “Fostering Interdisciplinary Research for Global Competitiveness”

 

The UPLB CAS Student-Faculty Research Conference is an annual event hosted by UPLB’s College of Arts and Sciences. This conference serves as a forum for the students and faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences to present their researches in front of their peers and colleagues.

This year, the conference will be held on November 17, 2014 (Monday) at the CAS Auditorium and CAS Annex I & 2 in the University of the Philippines Los Banos.

 

Scope:

This conference welcomes the submission of extended abstracts of original research on various topics in basic and applied sciences and in the arts. Research fields of interest include (but are not limited to) Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Education, Human Kinetics, Humanities, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Social Sciences, and Statistics. Interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary researches such as Advanced Materials, Computational Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Food and Nutrition Security, Instrumentation, Material Science and Engineering, Nanoscience and Nanotecnology, Renewable Energy, and Technological Innovations are highly encouraged.

 

Extended Abstract Submission:

The deadline for the submission of extended abstracts is on October 13, 2014 (Monday). Please submit an electronic copy (.doc) and a hard copy of your extended abstracts to your unit’s Coordinator for Research. Submit your extended abstract with an accompanying cover letter, indicating your preferred mode of presentation (oral or poster), name and affiliation of presenter and the contact information of the corresponding author. Note that the affiliation of the presenting author should be a unit of CAS.

Please limit your abstracts to one page of A4 paper. The extended abstract should highlight the important aspects of your research. It is recommended that the main text includes the objectives of your research, its significance, a basic description of your methodology, brief discussion of important results, your conclusions and the impacts of your findings. Please give ample discussion of the salient points of your work; however be mindful of the page limitation.

Selected papers will be published in the Proceedings of the 7th UPLB CAS Student-Faculty Research Conference after the conference. All authors accepted for presentation (oral or poster) are eligible to submit their full paper. Submit an e-copy (.doc or .docx) of the full paper to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. not later than November 17, 2014 (conference date).

Pre-Registration

Pre-Registration:

There is no registration fee for the conference. However, faculty and students are highly encouraged to pre-register since the number of conference kits, as well as meal stubs, to be distributed for free is limited. Please inform the Coordinator for Research in your respective units if you wish to pre-register for the event. Pre-registration will end on October 27, 2014 (Monday).

Oral and Poster Presentations

Oral and Poster Presentations:

Oral presenters are required to submit a softcopy of their presentation slides to the conference secretariat upon registration on the day of the conference. Please confer with your unit’s Coordinator for Research regarding the length of your presentation.

Posters should be 40 inches tall and 30 inches wide. Please ensure readability from a 2-meter distance. Judges will award a certificate for the best poster during the conference. The criteria for judging are as follows: visual impact (40%), content (40%) and organization (20%).

Full paper of researches accepted for oral presentation will be evaluated for Best Paper Awards. For those who wish to compete, submit an electronic copy (.doc) and a hard copy of your oral presentation’s full paper not later than November 3, 2014 (Monday) to your unit’s Coordinator for Research. The full paper should be accompanied by a letter expressing your intention to join the competition. Please address the letter to your unit’s Coordinator for Research. The letter should also contain the contact information of the corresponding author. The submitted full paper will be used by the judges to evaluate your research.
